Apples
are a wonderful fruit and have long been an American favorite
snack that is very nutritious and low in calories. Apple trees
require a moderately rich, fertile, loamy soil with good drainage.
Ph best is best at 6.0-6.5 but can grow in 5.5 - 8.5. Apples can
be grown in a sandy or clay soil as long as there is good drainage.
Full sun is best. As a rule Apples need cross-pollinating with
another variety to ensure good crop set. Some varieties are Pollinators
and will be label as such. You may also pollinate with crabapples.
Plant standard 25-30’ apart. Semi-dwf 16-18’ apart.
Fertilize with 10-10-10. Fruit yield: 10-30 bushels depending
on age and size. Zones range from 5-9. |
