Many think that the Hosui Asian Pear is the best flavored of all Asian Pears. Hosui are very round, medium to large, and combining the flavor and sweetness of Pears with the crunchiness of crisp Apples. Their mild flavor is sweet and slightly tart. Produces excellent-quality fruit with a slightly higher acid content than other Asian pears. Best for fresh-eating but also makes great pies!. Has an attractive golden-russet skin.
Likes full sun. Cold hardy, drought resistant and heat tolerant, Hosui is a good choice for milder climates as it requires only 450 low chilling hours. Vigorous willowy growth habit. Ripens in August.
Self-pollinating, but will yield larger crops when pollinated with another variety.
