Afganski Pomegranate is a well know heirloom variety from Afghanistan. It is very popular and usually chosen for its large, bright red delicious fruit with deeply colored, sweet-tart arils. It is extremely productive and grows ideally in USDA Zones
Characteristics:
- Fruit: Very large, bright red rind, deep red arils, sweet-tart flavor.
- Tree Size: Grows to 10-15 feet in height.
- Hardiness: Zones 6–10; cold-hardy to 0∘once established.
- Ripening: Late September to October.
- Sun/Soil: Requires full sun, drought-tolerant, and prefers well-drained soil.
- Pollination: Self-fertile.
Afganski is an excellent choice for, hot and humid climates like the Southeast, but is also hardy enough for, cooler regions,. It bears fruit within 1-2 years of planting.
Growing Tips:
- Planting: Plant while dormant ensuring 10–12 feet of spacing.
- Watering: Water regularly during the first few years to establish.
