The Yates Apple, an old Southern heirloom dating back to the 1800s, is prized for its small, bright red fruit with crisp, aromatic yellow flesh. Ripening late in the season, often into October and November, it stores exceptionally well and develops a rich, sweet-tart flavor that improves with time. Highly disease-resistant and adaptable, the Yates apple thrives in warm, humid climates where many other varieties struggle. Its reliable productivity and excellent keeping quality have made it a longtime favorite for fresh eating, cider, and baking. Hardy, flavorful, and steeped in history, Yates remains a standout choice for home orchards.
