Matsumoto Persimmon Tree

If you love the sweet, crisp flavor of Fuyu persimmons, you’ll want to add the Matsumoto Persimmon Tree to your orchard. This outstanding Japanese variety produces beautiful, large fruit that is slightly rounder and larger than traditional Fuyu persimmons. Also known as Matsumoto Wase-Fuyu.

Matsumoto is a non-astringent variety, which means the fruit can be enjoyed while it is still firm and crisp—no waiting for it to soften before eating. Its rich, sweet flavor makes it perfect for fresh eating, salads, desserts, or simply enjoying right off the tree.

One of the biggest advantages of the Matsumoto Persimmon is its early harvest. It ripens approximately two weeks before Fuyu, with fruit ready from late September through October, making it an excellent choice for both home gardeners and commercial growers who want an earlier crop.

This self-fertile tree begins producing fruit in about 3 years, although planting a second persimmon variety nearby can increase your harvest. Matsumoto is easy to grow, dependable, and makes an attractive landscape tree with glossy green foliage that turns beautiful shades of orange and red in the fall.
