The Byron Gold plum produces a beautiful golden-yellow fruit that is delicious and a favorite.  This variety is well suited for  humid climates of the Southeast, especially in USDA zones 5 through 9. It’s a moderately vigorous tree that grows about 15 to 20 feet tall and wide, with a steady growth rate and beautiful, fragrant white blossoms in spring. Since it’s not self-fertile, it needs another compatible plum nearby for pollination. When pollinated, it produces large, yellow, semi-freestone plums with a sweet flavor, usually ripening in early to mid-summer. The tree does best in full sun and well-drained soil, and it’s naturally resistant to many common diseases.

Known for its plentiful harvest and stand-out golden-yellow fruit, the Byron Gold Plum is a rarity amongst Japanese plum varieties. The plums boast firm, juicy flesh – perfect for fresh eating, baking, canning, or preserves. In the spring, the tree itself produces showy white blossoms that attract pollinators.

  • Produces golden-yellow flesh plums that are sweet and mild in flavor
  • Offers heavy yields consistently once established
  • Fruit ripens in mid to late summer
  • Cross-pollination with another Japanese plum variety will yield a better crop – we recommend Santa Rosa
