Byron Gold Plum Tree
The Byron Gold Plum Tree is a rare and exceptional Japanese plum variety that produces an abundance of beautiful golden-yellow fruit with outstanding sweetness and flavor. Developed for the warm, humid conditions of the Southeast, this dependable variety is an excellent choice for home orchards throughout USDA Zones 5–9.
The large, semi-freestone plums have smooth golden skin and firm, juicy yellow flesh with a sweet, mild flavor that’s perfect for eating fresh right off the tree. They are also excellent for baking, canning, jams, jellies, and preserves. Ripening in mid to late summer, Byron Gold extends your plum harvest with a generous crop of eye-catching fruit.
In early spring, the tree is covered with masses of fragrant white blossoms that not only create a beautiful landscape display but also attract bees and other beneficial pollinators. Once established, Byron Gold is known for producing heavy, dependable crops year after year.
Byron Gold is not self-fertile and requires another Japanese plum variety nearby for pollination. For the best fruit production, we recommend planting it with Santa Rosa, one of its best pollinating partners.
This moderately vigorous tree grows approximately 15 to 20 feet tall and wide, thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, and has excellent resistance to many common plum diseases. Its adaptability, productivity, and outstanding fruit quality make it an excellent addition to any home orchard.
