Grenada Pomegranate is another wonderful variety.  Grenada is a great early ripening variety.  It is known for its beautiful deep red skin and dark sweet-tart arils.  The seeds are slight softer than the standard pomegranate seed.   It is a self-fruitful, deciduous, and drought-tolerant shrub/tree, ideal for hot climates.
Key Characteristics and Description
  • Fruit Appearance: Large, glossy, deep red skin with deep red, juicy, and flavorful arils.
  • Taste Profile: Similar to ‘Wonderful’ but less tart and slightly sweeter.
  • Harvest Time: Ripens in late summer to early fall (August to October), which is approximately one month earlier than ‘Wonderful’.
  • Tree Characteristics: Can be trained as a large, 10-12 ft. shrub or tree, featuring orange flowers in late spring.
  • Growing Conditions: Thrives in full sun, adapts to various soils, and requires only 150-200 hours of chilling.
  • Use: Excellent for eating fresh, juicing, or in salads.

Planting and Care Tips
    • Sunlight: Full sun is required for best fruit production.
    • Soil: Adaptable to various soil types, but prefers well-drained soil.
    • Spacing: Space trees 12-20 feet apart depending on desired density.
    • Pruning: Can be trained as a bush or a small tree; pruning in late winter helps promote new growth and fruit production.
    • Harvesting: Typically ready for harvest from September through October.
