Anna Apple Tree
The Anna Apple is one of the best apple varieties for the Deep South, producing delicious fruit even in areas with mild winters. Requiring only 100–300 chill hours, this low-chill variety allows gardeners in warmer climates to enjoy crisp, homegrown apples where many traditional apple trees will not thrive.
Anna produces large apples with attractive light green to yellow skin highlighted by a soft red blush. The creamy white flesh is crisp, juicy, and pleasantly sweet with just a hint of tartness, making it a favorite for fresh eating. These versatile apples also hold their flavor well in pies, applesauce, baking, and other homemade treats.
One of the greatest advantages of the Anna Apple is that it begins bearing fruit at a young age, rewarding gardeners with harvests sooner than many other apple varieties. The fruit ripens in late June, providing one of the earliest apple harvests of the season. Anna apples also store well, allowing you to enjoy your harvest long after picking.
For the best fruit production, plant the Anna Apple with a Dorsett Golden Apple or another compatible low-chill apple variety for cross-pollination.
