The Monterrey pear is a charming heirloom variety that brings both beauty and bounty to the home orchard. Its round, apple-shaped fruit ripens to a golden yellow with a smooth, crisp texture and a sweet, refreshing flavor reminiscent of Asian pears.   The unique quality about this pear is it does not soften as it ripens.  Blight resistant as well!  This vigorous, upright tree is both hardy and productive, thriving in a wide range of climates with relatively low chill requirements. The Monterrey often begins producing within its first year, rewarding gardeners with generous crops of large fruit. With its dependable harvests, attractive form, and deliciously versatile pears, Monterrey is an excellent choice for both backyard growers and small orchards.  Is self fertile but will bear more with another variety.
