This American Hazelnut Tree produces 2-6 round small nuts with smooth thick shells.  These nuts are highly nutritious and full of protein, vitamins and minerals.  They are easy to crack.  Sweet round kernels shell out whole.  Distinctive taste.  The American Hazelnut grows into shapely shrubs that can be pruned into a tree.  Grows 6-10′.  Brilliant bronze leaves in the fall.  These trees are hardy, disease resistant and are very tolerant of a wide range of growing conditions.  Bears in 2-4 years.  Plant two more more for cross pollination and increased yields.

The nuts produced by this shrub are a preferred by squirrels, deer, turkey, woodpeckers, pheasants, grouse, quail and jays.

Ripens September to October.  Zones 4-9.
