Mary Washington Asparagus is a time-tested favorite that has been enjoyed by home gardeners for generations. This hardy perennial vegetable produces delicious, tender spears that are excellent fresh, grilled, steamed, or added to your favorite recipes.
A vigorous and reliable variety, Mary Washington is rust resistant, easy to grow, and produces large, succulent dark green spears with an attractive purple tinge. Once established, a well-maintained planting can produce for 15–20 years, making it an outstanding long-term addition to the garden.
Our asparagus plants are sold as one-year-old crowns and should be planted during the winter dormant season. A healthy planting can yield 8–10 pounds of asparagus per 100 square feet each year.
