This Rapitest Soil Test Kit takes the guesswork out of gardening.
Why should you test your soil?
Plants need food (nutrients) for healthy growth. Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potash (N, P, and K for short), all play a vital role in plants growth just as vitamins, minerals and carbohydrates and protein are important to our health.
When should I test my soil?
Soil should be tested periodically throughout the growing season, but it is especially recommended to test before planting in Spring and when preparing beds in Fall. And if you fell your plants are not growing well a soil test may help.
How to test your soil
The Soil sample: Remove the top 2″ of the surface soil. Break up and crumble the soil underneath to a depth of 5:. Remove any stones or organic debris. Thoroughly wet the soil with water to a mud consistency.
The Probe: Using the specifically supplied cleaning, lightly shine 4″ – 5″ of the probe avoiding the bullet shaped tip. Wipe clean using a cotton cloth or tissue.
Taking a soil pH reading:
- Push the probe vertically into the moistened soil to a depth of 4-5″. If it does not slip into the ground fairly easily select a new position. Never force the probe.
- Twist the probe clockwise and counter-clockwise between your fingers several times to ensure that wet soil is distributed over the surface of the probe.
- Wait for 60 seconds to acclimatize the probe and note the reading.
