Ken’s Red Hardy Kiwi is an exceptional variety that produces some of the largest fruit among hardy kiwis. The attractive fruit is sweet, flavorful, and nearly cylindrical with a gently tapered tip. Its firm texture helps resist bruising, making it an excellent choice for fresh eating and harvesting.
Unlike fuzzy kiwis, hardy kiwis have smooth, edible skin, so there’s no peeling required. Simply pick the fruit and enjoy its delicious, sweet flavor right off the vine. The fruit is also excellent in fruit salads, smoothies, desserts, and preserves.
Ken’s Red is a vigorous climbing vine that produces abundant crops once established. It is perfect for growing on arbors, pergolas, fences, or sturdy trellises, where it provides both delicious fruit and beautiful landscape appeal.
For fruit production, Ken’s Red is a female variety and requires a male Hardy Kiwi for pollination. One male Hardy Kiwi vine will pollinate up to eight female vines. Male plants do not produce fruit.
Exceptionally cold hardy, Ken’s Red can withstand temperatures down to -25°F and typically begins producing fruit 3–4 years after planting.
